The 2000 Carnival at a glance

The 2000 Carnival belongs to the “Modern Carnival” period of the festival's history. Since 1976: the Carnival gets its name back and becomes a mass celebration. Its theme was “Los Piratas”. The official poster is the work of Fernando Álamo. The Queen's Election Gala was held at Plaza de España, directed by Sergio García with stage design by Justo Gutiérrez.

The 2000 Carnival Queen was Shaila Martín Ramos with the costume “Manila Yerichana”, designed by Juan Carlos Armas, representing Ron Santa Teresa. Her court was completed by 10 Maids of Honour. Other crowns that year: Children's Queen: Almudena Viedma and Senior Queen: Consolación González.

In Adult murgas, Los Diablos Locos won first prize in Performance (its 3rd title; its first win since 1997), ahead of Afilarmónica Triqui-Traques and Afilarmónica Ni Pico-Ni Corto. In Children's murgas, Los Triqui-Traquitos won first prize in Performance (its 4th title; its first win since 1992), ahead of Los Desinquietos and Los Bambas. In Comparsas, Los Joroperos won first prize in Performance (its 4th title, 2 in a row), ahead of Los Tabajaras and Los Cariocas. In Rondallas and lyrical groups, Orfeón La Paz won first prize in Performance (its 24th title, 2 in a row), ahead of Gran Tinerfe and Unión Artística El Cabo. In Musical groups, Chaxiraxi won first prize in Performance (its first title), ahead of Sabor Isleño and Nobleza Canaria. In Children's costume contest, María Pérez García won first prize in Individual women's, ahead of Andrea Hernández Aguilar and Verónica Delgado. In Float contest, Carroza de Jesús Domingo Sabina Santana Las Chafiras won first prize in Float contest, ahead of Carroza de Alfredo García-Hevia García and Carroza de Jesús Miguel López. In Decorated cars, Juan Martínez won first prize in Decorated car contest, ahead of José Rivero and Miguel Martín Cedrés.
