The 2011 Carnival at a glance

The 2011 Carnival belongs to the “Modern Carnival” period of the festival's history. Since 1976: the Carnival gets its name back and becomes a mass celebration. Its theme was “Homenaje a Enrique González Bethencourt”. The official poster is the work of Elena Gonzalez Ramírez. The Queen's Election Gala was held at Recinto Ferial, directed by Sergio García with stage design by Luis Marrero.

The 2011 Carnival Queen was Naomi Cabrera Pulido with the costume “Cien años de historia”, designed by Leo Martínez, representing Periódico El Día. Her court was completed by 10 Maids of Honour. Other crowns that year: Children's Queen: Noelia Morales del Pino and Senior Queen: Claudina Roque Delgado.

In Adult murgas, Los Diablos Locos won first prize in Performance (its 6th title; its first win since 2007), ahead of La Traviata and Los Bambones. In Children's murgas, Los Distraídos won first prize in Performance (its first title), ahead of Los Sofocados and Los Rebeldes. In Comparsas, Los Joroperos won first prize in Performance (its 10th title, 3 in a row), ahead of Los Cariocas and Los Rumberos. In Rondallas and lyrical groups, Orfeón La Paz won first prize in Performance (its 35th title, 13 in a row), ahead of Unión Artística El Cabo and Lírico Coral Los Aceviños. In Musical groups, Salsabor won first prize in Performance (its first title), ahead of Chaxiraxi and Siboney. In Song of Laughter, No tengo el chichi p'a farolillos won first prize in Performance, ahead of Familia Monster and Los Sabanreños. In Children's costume contest, Aitana Martín Hernández won first prize in Individual women's, ahead of Emma Esparza Borges and Marina Tomé Martín. In Float contest, Carroza won first prize in Float contest, ahead of Carroza de Jesús Domingo Sabina Santana Las Chafiras and Carroza. In Decorated cars, Mouline Rouge won first prize in Decorated car contest, ahead of Y volvieron los bomberos de El Tanque en su helicóptero and Los Prehistéricos.
