The 2010 Carnival at a glance

The 2010 Carnival belongs to the “Modern Carnival” period of the festival's history. Since 1976: the Carnival gets its name back and becomes a mass celebration. Its theme was “Historia del Carnaval Chicharrero”. The official poster is the work of Waldemar Lemanczyk Paz. The Queen's Election Gala was held at Recinto Ferial, directed by Sergio García with stage design by Gap Imagen y Publicidad.

The 2010 Carnival Queen was Alicia San Juan Mc-Nulty with the costume “En el País de las Maravillas”, designed by Leo Martínez, representing Periódico El Día. Her court was completed by 11 Maids of Honour. Other crowns that year: Children's Queen: Mara Lorenzo Sosa and Senior Queen: Olga Guillén Tavío.

In Adult murgas, Afilarmónica Triqui-Traques won first prize in Performance (its 8th title, 3 in a row), ahead of Los Bambones and La Traviata. In Children's murgas, Los Rebeldes won first prize in Performance (its 6th title; its first win since 2007), ahead of Los Sofocados and Los Distraídos. In Comparsas, Los Joroperos won first prize in Performance (its 9th title, 2 in a row), ahead of Los Cariocas and Los Rumberos. In Rondallas and lyrical groups, Orfeón La Paz won first prize in Performance (its 34th title, 12 in a row), ahead of Lírico Coral Los Aceviños and Unión Artística El Cabo. In Musical groups, Chaxiraxi won first prize in Performance (its 6th title, 3 in a row), ahead of Caña Dulce and Sabor Isleño. In Song of Laughter, Abubukaka won first prize in Performance, ahead of No tengo el chichi p'a farolillos and Los Lejías. In Children's costume contest, Emma Esparza Borges won first prize in Individual women's, ahead of Sara Cruz Teja and Marina Tomé Martín. In Float contest, Carroza won first prize in Float contest, ahead of Carroza de Jesús Domingo Sabina Santana Las Chafiras and Carroza Borrachos tours. In Decorated cars, Queen Mary 2 won first prize in Decorated car contest, ahead of Desde la Esperanza en la jardinera and Police State of El Tanque.
